Last night we arrived in the coastal community of Sihanoukville. Our arrival marked the beginning of a monsoon rain that continued right through the night. Amidst the heavy downpour we explored what the local cuisine had to offer. As we made our way through the restaurant district a few things were apparent. This is a hotspot for college students and a hotspot for human trafficking. This reality has hit some of our team pretty hard, leaving some uneasy, and others angry, but all of us looking to the hope found in God's redemptive story.
Some relief came through two special experiences today. First, we all celebrated at the beach as three members from Stony Plain were baptized. Further as many of us stood in the water to share in the baptism experience, one person from Stony Plain was able to share the gospel with three observers who were wondering what the celebration in the water was all about. God so good!
Later that evening we visited the Don Bosco hospitality training center for dinner. This is an organization that provides opportunity for underprivileged young people to receive training in the hospitality industry and potential job placement in many of the finest resorts in Cambodia. It was a blessing and encouragement to hear the success stories coming out of this ministry and to be served by the young people who are learning their trade...and the food was delicious!
Tomorrow we return to Phnom Penh for the final leg of our Cambodian journey. Please continue to pray for health, unity and attentiveness to God's work in our lives.
