What stood out to you from Sunday’s message?

Summary

Read Colossians 3:1-17

We imagine that marriage will be happy, enriching and easy, but many days it is far from that. But what if God didn’t give us marriage to make us happy, but to make us holy? There are many things we cannot learn in isolation, but only in relationship. It is in relationship to other sinners that God exposes the greed, pride and selfishness of our hearts and teaches us to show kindness, forgiveness, love and gratitude. So Marriage is the crucible that shapes us to look more and more like Jesus.

  2. How does change start with our identity as “God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved”? Why is this important?
  3. How is marriage a “school of character”? What can we learn in relationships that we cannot learn on our own?
  4. How is love a decision rather than a feeling? What comes first the feeling or the decision?
  5. How is gratitude an important relational glue? How can you grow in this? What are you thankful for about your spouse or about your community group?
